About

The Full Story

Following an approach by councillors in 2020, the Stonebreaks Group set about developing plans for the land at and surrounding Stonebreaks Quarry. The group were refused permission for construction of 150 dwellings whereby in which they originally wanted to use the opportunity to deliver 'cradle to grave' housing; something for everyone through seeing the struggles of their own families in getting on the housing ladder or finding suitable accommodation later in their lives.

Unfortunately their ambitions were not supported however they understood the public response to the potential overdevelopment of the land and so have taken the past 2 years to develop something better.

The Group have sat back and reviewed how they can still utilise their land for something worthy. They have refused offers from developers in order to support the community response that something better can be done here. Whilst they accept some will still not favour development of the land at all, they continue to develop considerate and unique proposals to benefit those desperate for housing and those with a passion to have an opportunity to build their own house in the community they love. Full development proposals can we found at www.stonebreaksdevelopment.co.uk.

How does it work

Part of the wider proposals include 18 Self Build plots which respond to demand and the increase in those wanting to be part of the design and build of their own forever homes.

The Group are supported by an external Self Build Specialist who will manage the whole process, assist you in designing your home, submit the new community developments planning application, set up the construction process, assist in securing the necessary finance. The principle is to give local people the opportunity to have an alternative option rather than just selecting a new build plot from an average developer.

Designs will be managed through design code, ensuring the final result is not a patchwork quilt and holds architectural integrity whilst allowing individualism and personal touches throughout. Environmentally friendly design will be encouraged and supported ensuring at a minimum the developed houses have a minimum level of eco friendly assets, to be developed through the design process.

The aim is to bring together a group of people to form their own self build community, like minded people with a shared interest in building a home for life.
